archivi del presente - a collective project

These pictures are part of "Archivi del presente", a collective photographic project developed by Donne Fotografe - italian women photographers association - and Sibilla Arte.
This project is not just a serie of pictures but a space within the community, a virtual square where, through photography, we can recreate that collective dimension that is gradually dissolving in contemporary human society.
If the observer simply looks at these photos one by one, what they see are individual or group portraits.
But if the gaze - aided by the deliberate repetitiveness of backgrounds, poses, and black and white imagery - steps back and embraces all the images as a whole, something else emerges: the community, those complex bonds that, like transparent threads, nevertheless continue to connect the people of Carassai (an Italian municipality with 986 inhabitants in the province of Ascoli Piceno in the Marche region) to each other and to the places of this small Marche village.
Thus, these portraits come together in a virtual family album, where 'family' refers to the collectivity, the village. The photographic experience thus transforms into a collective social journey, where the image becomes a tool to gather life stories and identity narratives, and return them to the community to try, at least for a moment, to suggest the beauty that can be found in the collective dimension
